Hunt Prothro lives and works as a potter on property which was used as a battlefield hospital for Union soldiers during the Battle of Antietam; some say ghosts inhabit his house which was built in 1850, long before Mr. Prothro moved to Rohrersville, MD, and built a modernist gallery in the 19th century, limestone farmhouse. He isn’t certain there are no ghosts, but Mr. Prothro says he has seen none. However, his work on display in the gallery, and around the picturesque property, is an archive of decades of work, of broken pottery embedded in walls and concrete floors, the ghosts of recurring motif, and new bodies of work, exhumed from the mind’s eye by his light and steady hand.
