The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts (WCMFA) is a strong community anchor, enhancing civic engagement, cultural opportunities, quality of life, tourism and economic vitality. The WCMFA is a nationally recognized destination museum, nationally accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and has been recognized as one of the finest small museums in the United States. The Museum contributes to lifelong learning & visual literacy and is a key partner in expanding cultural enrichment opportunities for the local community & visitors. Hagerstown native, Anna Brugh Singer & her husband, noted American Impressionist painter, William Henry Singer, established the WCMFA. They gave it to the community with the proviso that the museum adhere to the highest standards in art collecting, offer free admission in perpetuity, and offer an active program of public art education. Now in its 84th year of service, WCMFA is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting works of art for the people of Washington County & the citizens of the four-state region.
