Long before Stan Lee and Captain America’s Civil War, fathers, brothers, sons, mothers, wives and sisters of the American Civil War were idealized for their courageous actions  and outstanding achievements.

Discover the Heroes Antietam National Battlefield with a full day of immersive student programming.  Hear the  stories of  how the men and women of the war faced the danger  of combat, sacrificing his or her own personal concerns for the greater good. 

Gather the troops for a journey through the winding roads and hallowed ground of Antietam National Battlefield. Begin your tour of the region at the  Antietam National Battlefield Visitor Center in Sharpsburg, Maryland.

Upon arrival view the 26-minute introductory film at the Visitor Center, the film is shown on the hour and the half hour. After the film, set aside some time to explore the on-sight museum and store. Rally the group and board the coach for a battlefield tour with your contracted  Step-On Guide from the Pry House Field Hospital Museum.

During the battlefield tour, students will learn about the “Angel of the Battlefield,” Clara Barton and her selfless pursuit to care for the wounded during the bloodiest one-day battle in U.S. History. Students will also learn about the "Father of Battlefield Medicine,” Jonathan Letterman, the medical director of the Army of the Potomac and the life-saving principles of triage he instituted at Antietam.
