Hagerstown Suns vs. the City: Finalizing the Lease Agreement

The Hagerstown Suns will play at Municipal Stadium through at least 2018, as the team agreed to terms on a lease extension with the City of Hagerstown last night. Last month, the Suns came to terms in principal with the city--which owns the stadium--on a $35,000 per year lease that would become effective in 2017.

That figure remains in place, with further clarification as to how the maintenance of Municipal Stadium will be divided between each party. Once the lease kicks in, the Suns will be responsible for utilities, day-to-day maintenance, and the replacement of operations-related equipment. The city, meanwhile, will take on some of the upkeep, including large-scale repairs to the clubhouse, bleacher and grandstand units, and the outfield wall.

As part of the agreement, the city must now invest up to $35,000 per year in upgrades to Municipal Stadium. Additionally, the city will put money into two repairs this year: new padding on the outfield wall, and a bathroom renovation in the home clubhouse.

The extension will formally take effect on January 1, 2017 and run through December 31, 2018.
