Taking Flight with the Flying Boxcars

The Flying Boxcars are set to take off in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) this season. Their brand new stadium, Meritus Park, opens in May for their first game and promises to be a fantastic venue to catch a game. The team name pays homage to Hagerstown's history in aviation, Fairchild Aircraft's production of C-82 and C-119 cargo planes.

The Flying Boxcars' official website, flyingboxcars.com, is ready to take your ticket orders, and the season schedule is  available. Mark your calendars for their official opening game on May 17, 2024, and get ready for an exciting season of professional baseball!

Hagerstown's Baseball Roots Run Deep

While the Flying Boxcars represent a new chapter, Hagerstown's love for baseball goes back a long way. For over 90 years, Municipal Stadium served as the heart of the city's baseball scene. Built in a remarkable six weeks in 1930, it became home to the Hagerstown Suns, a minor league affiliate. Though demolished in 2022, the stadium holds a special place in Hagerstown's memory, hosting countless games and witnessing the passion of generations of baseball fans. Many of baseball's superstars got their start with the Suns.

Growing the Game at the Grassroots Level

Hagerstown is also a great place for young baseball players to hone their skills. Several youth leagues, including the Hagerstown Pony League and Federal Little League, offer opportunities for kids of all ages to learn the game, make friends, and have some fun.

Beyond the Diamond

Whether you're a die-hard baseball fan or simply looking for a fun family outing, Hagerstown has something for everyone. Before or after a game, be sure to visit the city's historic sites, dine in the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District, walk the Cultural Trail, or visit the Museum of Fine Arts in beautiful City Park.
